Beyond Day 8, A Christmas Takeaway

Oh, How much fun is it to be around a 6 year old during Christmas! Skylar is our only grandchild, and it was a blast to watch her excitement, nervous energy and expectation as she dreamed of what was in those wrapped presents.

Despite the ecstasy of those few days with our girl, we found ourselves hit with the harsh reality facing our friend Nicolas Victorian, Mayor of Pignon, Haiti. His community of 50k is starving. In an effort to give families not just a Christmas to enjoy but amnesty from their daily hunger pangs, Nicholas reached out to Kelly Green Global for help.

Our mission was to provide meals for 50 families for 1 week during Christmas. While we joyfully obliged to do so and sent the funds needed to accomplish this need, my heart couldn’t help but think of where these people would be on day 8. What happens in this very needy community on day 8? Although we have helped the last few years in creating “sustainability “in communities in Kenya, Uganda, Indonesia, Cambodia, these aren’t the only places in need.

Kelly Green Global is now praying about how we can help beyond day 8 in this Haitian community. There are so many other needs that come alongside hunger! Many don’t have mattresses to sleep on, clean water, medical supplies, etc. So many missions’ teams are sent out in Jesus name to care for the suffering people in our world for a time, but we must start looking at the bigger picture. How can we fulfill these daily needs? How can we, as God’s church, fulfill the calling of taking care of those in need, not for a week, but day 8 and beyond?

As you sit at your table tonight, whether it be with family or alone, at your dining room table or the table at your local favorite dive, take a moment and thank God for the blessing before you. Please be in prayer for Kelly Green Global as God continues to show us these needs around the world; that he reveals to us how to create sustainable conditions to solve these issues of extreme poverty in a more practical complete way.
